1, Park the car on a level surface and turn off the engine.
Wait a few minutes to allow the oil to settle back into the oil pan.
2. Open the hood.
Pull the release lever located on the driver's side footwell, and then lift the hood.
3. Locate the oil dipstick.
The oil dipstick is usually located on the driver's side of the engine, near the back. It has a yellow or orange plastic handle.
4. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean.
Use a clean paper towel or rag to wipe off any oil from the dipstick.
5. Reinsert the dipstick into the tube.
Push the dipstick all the way back into the tube until it touches the bottom.
6. Pull out the dipstick again and check the oil level.
The oil level should be between the two marks on the dipstick. If the oil level is low, you will need to add oil.
7. Add oil if necessary.
If the oil level is low, use a funnel to add oil to the engine. Add oil slowly, and check the oil level frequently to avoid overfilling.
8. Replace the oil dipstick and close the hood.
Once you have added oil, replace the oil dipstick and close the hood.
