Tools Needed:
- Flathead screwdriver
- Pliers (optional)
Procedure:
1. Locate the bonnet release cable: On most Fiat Punto models, the bonnet release cable is located near the driver's footwell, usually beneath the dashboard or near the door frame.
2. Check the bonnet release handle: Ensure that the bonnet lever is in the correct position. If the lever isn't working, try pulling it several times to see if it loosens.
3. Disconnect the cable (if accessible): If you can reach the bonnet release cable, try disconnecting it from the lever or the handle. This will allow you to pull the cable freely.
4. Use the flathead screwdriver: Insert the flathead screwdriver into the small gap between the bonnet and the front bumper. The gap is usually near the bonnet's lock.
5. Pry open the bonnet: While pressing down on the bonnet, insert the flathead screwdriver in the gap and gently pry it open. Be cautious not to damage the paint or the bonnet.
6. Use pliers (optional): If you're having trouble prying open the bonnet with the screwdriver, you can use pliers to grip the release cable (if accessible) and pull it forcefully.
7. Alternative method: On some Punto models, there might be an emergency release cable accessible from the engine bay. If this is the case, you can open the bonnet from inside the engine compartment.
Note: If the bonnet release mechanism is damaged or stuck, it's best to have it repaired or replaced by a professional mechanic.
Always be careful when working around the bonnet and ensure that it's properly supported before fully opening it to prevent any injuries or damage.
