Where is the flasher unit on a 1992 Mazda Protege?

1992 Mazda Protege flasher units can be located either outside under the dash at the very outer left side, next to the steering column where they can be reached under and to one side of the lower dash with no removal, OR they could also sit right side up inside the engine compartment on the inner fender on the outside corner where the hood hinges down by a small rubber piece of the inner fender
