1. Get the Oil filter wrench.
2. Make sure the car is off, and the engine has cooled off.
3. Ensure that the oil filter wrench fits the type of oil filter to be replaced.
4. Place an oil pan below the oil filter.
5. Use the oil filter wrench to loosen and remove the oil filter. Place a new gasket from the new oil filter onto the old filter's base, so it stays attached to the engine block when the oil filter is removed.
6. Once the oil filter is removed, lubricate the gasket of the new oil filter with some new oil. Ensure that the new filter is sealed tightly in place, but do not over-tighten it.
7. Check the oil level and add more oil if needed.
8. Start the car and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks.
9. Turn off the car and check the oil level again. Add more oil if needed.
