Look for:
* Levers or straps: These are usually located on either side of the trunk, near the back of the rear seat itself. They might be hidden behind a panel or trim piece. Pull the lever or strap to release the backrest.
* Pull-down handles: Sometimes, there are handles located on the top of the back of the rear seat itself (inside the cabin) that you pull to fold down a section.
Procedure (assuming levers/straps in the trunk):
1. Open the trunk: Access the trunk of your Malibu.
2. Locate the release levers or straps: Carefully inspect the sides of the trunk, close to where the rear seatbacks meet the trunk floor. They might be covered by a small panel that needs to be unclipped or removed.
3. Pull the appropriate lever or strap: There should be one for each side (60/40 split). Pull the lever or strap for the section you want to fold down.
4. Fold the seatback down: Once the lever/strap is pulled, the seatback should fold forward flat into the trunk.
If you can't find levers in the trunk: Check carefully inside the rear passenger compartment for pull-down handles at the top of the seatbacks.
