Parts Needed:
Replacement Door Weatherstripping (specific to your vehicle model and year)
Pry Tool or Flat-head Screwdriver
Replacement adhesive (optional)
1. Open the Door: Open the door where you want to replace the weatherstripping.
2. Locate Weatherstripping: Identify the existing door weatherstripping. It's the rubber seal that runs along the door's edge.
3. Remove Old Weatherstripping: Use the pry tool or flat-head screwdriver to carefully pry up one end of the old weatherstripping. Start from a corner and work your way along the entire length. Be cautious not to damage the door paint.
4. Clean the Area: Clean the area where the old weatherstripping was attached. Ensure that there is no residue or dirt that could interfere with the adhesion of the new weatherstripping.
5. Prepare New Weatherstripping: Measure and cut the new weatherstripping to the correct length. Some replacement weatherstripping might come pre-cut to the right size. If not, carefully measure and cut to match the original weatherstripping.
6. Apply Adhesive (optional): Some replacement weatherstripping kits include an adhesive strip. If yours has an adhesive strip, apply it to the back of the new weatherstripping. Follow the instructions on the adhesive packaging for proper application.
7. Install New Weatherstripping: Start installing the new weatherstripping by pressing one end into the channel. Work your way along the entire length of the door, ensuring the weather stripping fits snugly in the channel. Make sure the weatherstripping is pushed in evenly to avoid gaps.
8. Secure the Weatherstripping: If your vehicle does not have an adhesive strip, you might need to secure the weatherstripping in place. You can use weatherstripping adhesive or sealant. Apply a thin layer of adhesive to the back of the weather-stripping and firmly press it into the channel.
9. Test Weatherstripping: Once installed, close and open the door a few times to check if the weatherstripping is properly sealed. Ensure there are no gaps or areas where water or air can still seep through.
10. Repeat for Other Doors: If necessary, repeat the process on other doors that require weatherstripping replacement.
Replacing door weatherstripping is a relatively straightforward DIY task. However, if you are not comfortable with the process or are unsure about any step, it's best to consult with a professional mechanic or take your vehicle to a reputable auto repair shop.
