1999 Volvo S40 Oil Filter Location:

1. Park your vehicle on a level surface.

2. Turn off the engine and let it cool down.

3. Open the hood of your car.

4. Locate the oil filter housing: it is a cylindrical-shaped component located near the top of the engine.

5. Place an oil drain pan under the oil filter housing to catch any dripping oil.

6. To remove the oil filter housing, turn the housing counterclockwise until it comes loose. Be careful not to spill any oil.

7. Remove the old oil filter from the housing.

8. Inspect the old filter for any signs of wear or damage.

9. Apply a thin coat of new engine oil to the gasket of the new filter.

10. Screw on the new oil filter until it is snug. Do not overtighten the filter.

11. Replace the oil filter housing and turn it clockwise until it is secure.

12. Add new engine oil to the engine according to the specifications found in your owner's manual.

13. Check the oil level using the dipstick.

14. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks.
