- Replacement coolant temperature sensor
- Socket wrench set
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Coolant (G12 or G13)
- Funnel
- Safety glasses
- Gloves
Instructions:
1. Park your car in a safe location and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down completely before proceeding.
2. Locate the coolant temperature sensor. On the Audi A6 1998, the coolant temperature sensor is located on the back of the cylinder head, near the thermostat housing.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the coolant temperature sensor. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to pry open the locking tab on the connector, then gently pull the connector straight up to disconnect it.
4. Use the socket wrench to loosen and remove the coolant temperature sensor. Be careful not to drop the sensor into the engine bay.
5. Clean the threads where the coolant sensor screws in.
6. Apply a small amount of thread sealant to the threads of the new coolant sensor. This will help to prevent leaks.
7. Screw in the new coolant temperature sensor and hand-tighten it.
8. Use the socket wrench to tighten the coolant temperature sensor. Do not overtighten the sensor, as this can damage it.
9. Reconnect the electrical connector to the coolant temperature sensor. Snap the locking tab into place to secure the connector.
10. Reattach the cover and top off the coolant reservoir using a funnel.
Tips:
- Make sure to use the correct coolant for your Audi A6 1998. The coolant should be G12 or G13, which are available at most auto parts stores.
- If you spill any coolant, clean it up immediately, as it can be harmful to pets and the environment.
