Why is water leaking into the car through Saab 900 convertible top?

Drain Holes Clogged

The most common reason for water leaking into a Saab 900 convertible top is clogged drain holes. The Saab 900 has four drain holes, one in each corner of the convertible top frame. These holes allow water to drain out of the top when it is closed. If these holes become clogged, water can back up and overflow, leaking into the car.

Check the drain holes to see if they are clear by running a hose over the top while the top is closed, any areas the water does not drain out of, will need to be cleared.

Worn Weatherstripping

The weatherstripping around the convertible top can also become worn or damaged over time, allowing water to leak into the car. This is especially common along the front of the top, where the weatherstripping meets the windshield.

Inspect the weatherstripping around the convertible top for any damage, if there are any tears, gaps or cracks, the weather stripping will need to be replaced.

Damaged Convertible Top Fabric

In some cases, the convertible top fabric itself can become damaged, allowing water to leak into the car. This can be caused by a number of factors, including age, sun damage, and accidents.

Look for any tears or holes in the convertible top fabric, if any damage is found, the top will need to be repaired or replaced.

Leaking Convertible Top Frame

In some cases, the convertible top frame itself can leak. This is most common in older cars, where the sealant around the frame may have degraded over time.

Look around the convertible frame for any cracks or gaps, if any damage is found, the sealant around the frame will need to be replaced.
