How do you know how old a car is?

There are a few ways to tell how old a car is.

* Check the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The VIN is a 17-character code that is unique to each car. It can be found on the driver's side door jamb, on the dashboard near the steering wheel, and on the vehicle title. The 10th digit of the VIN is the model year code. For example, a car with a VIN of 1G2NC5EE0E1123456 would be a 2011 model.

* Look at the title or registration. The title or registration will list the year of the car.

* Check the odometer. The odometer measures the distance that a car has traveled. By comparing the odometer reading to the year of the car, you can get a good idea of how much the car has been driven.

* Look at the car's condition. Older cars may have more wear and tear than newer cars. Look for things like rust, dents, and scratches.

* Check the car's features. Older cars may not have the same features as newer cars. For example, older cars may not have airbags, anti-lock brakes, or power windows.
