How do you change passenger side mirror on 97 Toyota Camry?

Tools

* Replacement side-view mirror

* Adjustable wrench

* Screwdriver

* Masking tape

* Scissors

Steps

1. Adjust the seat. Pull the locking bar underneath your Camry's passenger-side seat and slide the seat all the way back.

2. Tape up your mirror glass. Use masking tape to cover the entire glass surface of the passenger side-view mirror. Taping it up before removing the old mirror will prevent your Camry's exterior from getting scratched.

3. Locate the mirror adjustment screw. Open your Camry's hood and find the nut located towards the rear of the passenger side mirror housing. That nut is actually a screw used to adjust the vertical position of the mirror.

4. Loosen the adjustment screw. Use an adjustable wrench to turn the mirror adjustment screw counterclockwise. Don't completely remove it: a few turns should be sufficient to free the mirror assembly.

5. Free the mirror assembly. Slide your fingers behind the passenger side-view mirror and pull outward. Do that gradually, as there are electrical wire connectors still attached to the assembly.

6. Detach the connectors. Look for 4 to 5 small connectors (depending on your Camry's model) at the back of the mirror assembly. Squeeze the small latching tab on each connector, then pull it straight off the mirror assembly. There might be a cover attached to the mirror with clips; simply pry it off.

7. Remove the old mirror. There should be a large bolt, secured with a nut, that attaches the mirror assembly to your Camry's body. Use an adjustable wrench to turn the nut counterclockwise, then remove the bolt and the old mirror assembly.

8. Fit the new mirror. Remove the tape from the glass surface of the mirror. Position the new mirror in the exact location where you detached the old one. Hand-tighten the same nut that you loosened in order to remove the old mirror.

9. Reattach the connectors. Take the connectors that are at the back of the old mirror assembly and plug them back into their respective female ends on your Camry.

10. Secure the mirror assembly. Push the new mirror assembly back against your Camry's door to make sure that the connectors slide in all the way. Then, use the adjustable wrench to tighten the large nut that secures the mirror assembly to your car's body.

11. Tighten the adjustment screw. Remember that screw you loosened in Step 3? Use the adjustable wrench to tighten it clockwise. Do that until the mirror is snug.

12. Test the new mirror. Move your seat back to its original position and sit behind the steering wheel. Use the adjustment switch to make sure the mirror can move up/down and left/right accordingly.
