1. Upstream (Pre-Catalytic Converter) Lambda Sensor:
- Situated before the catalytic converter in the exhaust manifold.
- It monitors the air-fuel mixture before it enters the catalytic converter.
2. Downstream (Post-Catalytic Converter) Lambda Sensor:
- Positioned after the catalytic converter in the exhaust pipe.
- Monitors the efficiency of the catalytic converter and checks the remaining oxygen content in the exhaust gas.
The lambda sensors detect the amount of oxygen in the exhaust and relay this information to the engine control unit (ECU). The ECU uses this information to adjust the air-fuel mixture, ensuring optimal performance and emission control.
