Chevy Malibu – How to Open The Gas Tank and Cap

When you get a new car, everything is new. You might not be familiar with how to operate normally obvious and straight forward features. Opening the fuel door is one of those simple features we take for granted. Not all cars operate the same way. We’ll show you how to accomplish this so you can refuel gracefully!

If you’re looking to pop the gas tank, don’t bother looking for a release button or switch inside the Chevy Malibu, because there isn’t one. To open the gas tank, follow these steps:

1. After you pull up to the gas station, unlock the door and step out.
2. Walk around to the rear passenger side of the Malibu.
3. Press solidly on the left side of the fuel door. If you press inward with enough pressure and release, the gas door will spring open. Depending on the year, some models have a capless system so you don’t have to touch anything under the gas tank door.
4. Once open, simply insert the gas nozzle and begin pumping your fuel.
