Materials:
- New tailgate latch assembly
- Lock lubricant
- WD-40
Instructions:
1. Open the tailgate. If it is stuck, you may need to use a pry bar to gently pry it open.
2. Locate the tailgate latch assembly. It is located on the inside of the tailgate, near the bottom.
3. Remove the old tailgate latch assembly. There are two screws holding it in place. Use a screwdriver or socket to remove them.
4. Clean the latch assembly area. Use a wire brush to remove any dirt or debris that may be built up.
5. Apply lock lubricant to the new latch assembly. This will help it to move smoothly.
6. Install the new latch assembly. Insert it into the opening and secure it with the screws you removed earlier.
7. Test the tailgate latch. Open and close the tailgate several times to make sure it is working properly.
8. If necessary, adjust the tailgate latch. There is a small adjustment screw on the latch assembly that can be used to adjust the tightness of the latch.
9. Apply WD-40 to the tailgate hinges. This will help them to move smoothly and prevent them from rusting.
10. Test the tailgate again. Make sure it opens and closes easily.
