Disconnect the battery:
Locate the battery in the engine compartment, usually in the front or rear of the vehicle.
Loosen the negative (black) battery terminal clamp using a wrench or socket set.
Remove the negative battery cable clamp and set it aside.
Wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow the vehicle's electrical system to discharge completely.
Reconnect the battery:
After waiting, reattach the negative battery cable clamp to the negative battery terminal.
Tighten the negative battery terminal clamp securely.
Start the vehicle:
Get into the driver's seat and turn the ignition key to the "On" position without starting the engine.
Leave the key in the "On" position for about 10-15 seconds to allow the computer system to initialize.
Turn the ignition key to the "Off" position.
Repeat this step of turning the ignition key to the "On" and "Off" positions twice more.
Start the engine:
Turn the ignition key to the "Start" position to start the engine.
Let the engine run for a few minutes to allow the computer system to complete its self-checks and adjustments.
Your 1996 Cadillac Eldorado's computer system should now be reset.
Note: Some vehicle models may have different specific procedures for resetting the computer system after self-servicing, so it's always a good idea to consult your vehicle's service manual or a reliable repair guide for your specific make and model.
