Instructions:

1. Park the vehicle and let it cool down. The engine must be cool to the touch before you begin working on it.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. This will prevent the engine from starting while you're working on it.

3. Remove the engine cover If applicable, remove plastic engine cover to gain access to the timing belt cover underneath.

4. Remove the timing belt covers. There are two timing belt covers, one on the front of the engine and one on the back. Remove the bolts holding the covers in place and pry them off gently with a screwdriver.

5. Remove the old timing belt. Loosen the tensioner so that you can remove the old timing belt.

6. Inspect the timing belt tensioner and water pump. If either of these parts is damaged, replace them now.

7. Install new timing belt, water pump, and tensioner. Install new timing belt, water pump, and tensioner according to the instructions in the repair manual.

8. Adjust the timing belt tension. The timing belt should be tight, but not too tight. The tensioner should be adjusted so that the timing belt can be deflected about 1/2 inch (13 mm) with your thumb between the sprockets.

9. Replace the timing belt covers. Replace the timing belt covers and bolts.

10. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

11. Start the engine and check for leaks. Let the engine run for a few minutes and check for any leaks. If there are no leaks, turn off the engine and proceed to the next step.

12. Check the timing. Use a timing light to check the timing. The timing should be set to 15 degrees before top dead center (BTDC).

13. If necessary, adjust the timing. If the timing is off, adjust it by turning the distributor.

14. Replace the spark plug wires and reinstall the valve cover.

15. Fill the engine with coolant and check the level.

16. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks and make sure that the engine is running smoothly.

17. Turn off the engine and allow to cool down.

18. Top off coolant reservoir as necessary.

19. Verify your work, ensure all covers and bolts are correctly installed and tightened.
