How do I open the hatchback on 1998 Subaru Legacy Outback stuck?

1. Try the key. The key should be inserted into the keyhole on the outside of the hatchback and turned clockwise to unlock it. If the key does not turn or the hatchback does not open, you may need to use a different method.

2. Use the inside release lever. There should be a release lever inside the vehicle, near the tailgate. Pull this lever to release the hatchback. If there is no inside release lever, you may be able to open the hatchback by pulling the carpeting or material on the side of the tailgate, and pulling the lever directly connected to the latch mechanism.

3. Use the emergency release cable. If the key and the inside release lever do not work, you may need to use the emergency release cable. This cable is usually located in the trunk of the vehicle. Pull on the cable to release the hatchback.

4. Get a locksmith involved. If you are not able to open the hatchback using the key or the inside release lever, you may need to contact a professional locksmith.
