Instructions
Note: Before you begin with the CV axle replacement on your 2000 Kia Spectra, make sure that the car is parked on a flat surface and that you secure it with the parking brake.
1. Remove the hubcap: If your vehicle has hubcaps, use a screwdriver or flat pry tool to remove the hubcap.
2. Remove the lug nuts: Loosen the lug nuts with a wrench, but DO NOT remove them completely.
3. Raise the vehicle: Use a jack to raise the car off the ground. Remove the lug nuts completely, then remove the tire.
4. Support the vehicle: Use a jack stand to support the vehicle.
5. Remove the axle nut: Locate the axle nut on the wheel hub and remove it using a wrench.
6. Disconnect the tie rod end: Use a socket wrench to loosen the bolts holding the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
7. Remove the strut bolts: Remove the bolts holding the strut to the steering knuckle using a socket wrench.
8. Remove the control arm bolts: Remove the bolts holding the control arm to the steering knuckle.
9. Pull the axle shaft: Use an axle puller to pull the axle shaft out of the transmission.
10. Clean the axle shaft: Clean the axle shaft with a degreaser and a wire brush.
11. Apply grease: Apply a liberal amount of grease to the splines of the axle shaft.
12. Install the new CV axle: Slide the new CV axle into the transmission.
13. Reconnect the tie rod end and control arm: Secure the tie rod and control arm back into place.
14. Install the strut bolts: Reinstall the strut bolts.
15. Tighten the axle nut: Tighten the axle nut until it is snug.
16. Lower the vehicle: Lower the vehicle using the jack.
17. Install the tire and lug nuts: Install the tire, then place and tighten the lug nuts.
18. Repeat for the passenger side: If your Kia has a CV axle issue on the passenger side, repeat the process for that side.
Be sure to follow these steps carefully and use caution when handling tools and parts.
