Preparation:
- Allow the car to cool down if the engine has been running.
- Park the car in a safe and level area, and engage the parking brake.
Materials:
- New washer pump for Toyota Camry (check the owner’s manual or verify with an auto parts store for the correct fit).
- Funnel
- Phillips-head screwdriver
- Socket wrench with appropriate socket
Procedure:
1. Open the Hood:
- Pull the hood release lever usually inside the driver's footwell.
- Locate the secondary hood release inside the engine bay and disengage it.
- Lift the hood and secure it with the prop rod.
2. Locate Washer Reservoir:
- Identify the washer fluid reservoir, which is usually a translucent container marked with a washer symbol or labeled “WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID.”
3. Remove Washer Fluid:
- Remove the cap of the washer reservoir and drain most of the fluid into a container.
- This step is optional but helps reduce spills.
4. Disconnect the Washer Hose:
- Trace the hose from the washer pump to the washer fluid tank.
- Disconnect the hose by pressing down on the connector and pulling it apart.
- Catch any remaining washer fluid.
5. Detach Electrical Connector:
- Locate the electrical connector attached to the washer pump.
- Disconnect it by pressing on the tab or lock and pulling it off the pump.
6. Remove Old Washer Pump:
- There may be a securing nut on the washer pump, or it might be held in place by tabs or a bracket.
- Remove the nut or disengage the tabs/brackets.
- Remove the old washer pump from the reservoir.
7. Install New Washer Pump:
- Place the new washer pump into the reservoir.
- Secure it by tightening the nut if needed, or engaging the tabs/bracket.
8. Reconnecting Electrical Connector:
- Reattach the electrical connector by pushing it onto the pump until it clicks into place.
9. Reconnect Washer Hose:
- Reconnect the washer hose to the pump by pushing the connector back together until it clicks into place.
10. Refill Washer Fluid:
- Refill the washer fluid reservoir to its marked “full” level.
11. Test Washer Pump:
- Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position without starting the engine.
- Activate the washer switch to test if the new pump is working.
12. Close the Hood:
- Once the pump works, close the hood by disengaging the prop rod and lowering the hood.
13. Clean Up:
- Clean any spilled washer fluid and dispose of the old washer pump and drained washer fluid appropriately.
