How do you replace the water pump on a 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2.0L?

Tools and Materials Needed

- Replacement water pump

- New water pump gasket

- Socket set

- Screwdriver

- Pliers

- Funnel

- Coolant

- Rags

Instructions

1. Park the car on a level surface and turn off the engine.

2. Allow the engine to cool down completely.

3. Open the hood of the car.

4. Locate the water pump. It is usually located on the front of the engine, near the top.

5. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

6. Drain the coolant from the radiator.

7. Remove the serpentine belt.

8. Remove the bolts that hold the water pump in place.

9. Remove the old water pump gasket and clean the surface of the engine block.

10. Install the new water pump gasket and the new water pump.

11. Tighten the bolts that hold the water pump in place.

12. Refill the radiator with coolant.

13. Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

14. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for leaks.
