Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Prepare the Vehicle
- Park your vehicle on a level surface and allow the engine to cool down completely.
- Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to avoid any electrical issues while working.
2. Drain the Coolant
- Locate the drain plug on the radiator or engine block.
- Place a large container under the drain plug to collect the old coolant.
- Remove the drain plug to drain the coolant from the system.
- Allow the coolant to drain completely.
3. Remove the Serpentine Belt
- Locate the serpentine belt tensioner.
- Use a wrench or socket to loosen the tensioner and relieve the tension on the belt.
- Remove the serpentine belt by sliding it off the pulleys.
4. Remove the Water Pump
- Locate the water pump. It is usually attached to the front of the engine.
- Disconnect the hose connections to the water pump. Use pliers or a screwdriver to loosen the hose clamps.
- Remove the bolts or nuts that hold the water pump in place.
- Carefully remove the old water pump from the engine.
5. Install the New Water Pump

- Apply a thin layer of sealant (if recommended) to the gasket surface of the new water pump.
- Position the new water pump in place and secure it with the bolts or nuts you removed earlier.
- Reconnect the hose connections to the water pump.
6. Refill the Coolant
- Remove the radiator cap or reservoir cap.
- Use a funnel to pour new coolant into the system until it reaches the recommended level.
- Be sure to use the correct type of coolant specified for your vehicle.
7. Install the Serpentine Belt
- Reinstall the serpentine belt by placing it around the pulleys.
- Adjust the tensioner to properly tighten the belt.
8. Test the System
- Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
- Check for any leaks around the water pump and hose connections.
9. Check Coolant Level
- Allow the engine to cool down and check the coolant level again. Adjust if necessary.
10. Cleanup
- Dispose of old coolant and rags appropriately.
- Cleanup any spilled coolant or water.
