1. Safety First:
- Engage the parking brake and ensure the vehicle is safely secured.
- Loosen the lug nuts slightly, not completely removing them yet.
2. Remove the Wheel:
- Use a car jack to safely raise the vehicle off the ground.
- Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Remove the Caliper:
- Locate the brake caliper, usually secured with bolts or pins.
- Remove the bolts or pins to loosen the caliper and carefully move it out of the way, without disconnecting the brake line.
- Hang the caliper using wire or rope to prevent it from dangling freely.
4. Locate and Remove the Dust Shield:
- Find the dust shield behind the brake rotor. It's usually attached to the wheel hub.
- Remove any bolts, clips, or screws holding the dust shield in place.
5. Inspect and Remove the Old Dust Shield:
- Inspect the removed dust shield for any excessive damage that may have necessitated the replacement.
- Remove the old dust shield carefully.
6. Prepare and Install the New Dust Shield:
- Clean the area where the dust shield was located to remove any dirt or debris.
- Place the new dust shield in position, aligning it with the mounting points.
- Secure the new dust shield using the appropriate bolts, clips, or screws.
7. Reinstall the Caliper:
- Reposition the caliper back onto the brake rotor.
- Tighten the caliper bolts or pins securely to ensure a stable hold.
8. Reinstall the Wheel:
- Place the wheel back on the wheel hub.
- Install the lug nuts and tighten them slightly.
9. Lower the Vehicle:
- Slowly lower the vehicle using the car jack until it's back on the ground.
10. Finalize Tightening:
- Torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specified tightness using a torque wrench.
