1. Gather the necessary tools and materials:
- New spark plugs (NGK BKR5EKU or equivalent)
- Spark plug wrench or socket with extension
- Ratchet
- Screwdriver
- Pliers
- Compressed air or vacuum cleaner
- Safety goggles
2. Prepare the engine:
- Allow the engine to cool down if it has been running.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent any accidental electrical sparks.
3. Locate the spark plugs:
- The spark plugs are located on the top of the engine.
- There are three spark plugs on each side of the engine, for a total of six.
4. Remove the ignition coils:
- Use a screwdriver to remove the two bolts holding down each ignition coil.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from each ignition coil.
- Pull the ignition coils straight up to remove them.
5. Remove the old spark plugs:
- Use the spark plug wrench or socket to loosen and remove the old spark plugs.
- Be careful not to drop the old spark plugs into the engine.
6. Clean the spark plug wells:
- Use compressed air or a vacuum cleaner to remove any dirt or debris from the spark plug wells.
7. Install the new spark plugs:
- Hand-tighten the new spark plugs until they are snug.
- Use the spark plug wrench or socket to tighten the spark plugs to the specified torque (18 ft-lbs).
8. Reinstall the ignition coils:
- Place the ignition coils back into their respective wells and align the bolt holes.
- Insert the bolts and tighten them until they are snug.
- Reconnect the electrical connectors.
9. Reconnect the negative battery terminal:
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal to the battery.
10. Verify the connections:
- Double-check that all the spark plug wires and connections are properly secured.
Start the engine and check for any unusual sounds or misfires. If everything seems normal, your Shogun is ready to go!
