1. Locate the fuel tank drain plug. It is typically located on the bottom of the fuel tank.
2. Place a drain pan under the drain plug.
3. Open the drain plug and allow the fuel to drain into the drain pan.
Step 2: Remove the Fuel Pump Assembly
1. Locate the fuel pump access cover. It is typically located on the top of the fuel tank.
2. Remove the access cover.
3. Disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connectors from the fuel pump assembly.
4. Remove the fuel pump assembly from the fuel tank.
Step 3: Inspect the Fuel Pump Assembly
1. Inspect the fuel pump assembly for damage.
2. If the fuel pump is damaged, replace it.
Step 4: Install the New Fuel Pump Assembly
1. Place the new fuel pump assembly into the fuel tank.
2. Connect the fuel lines and electrical connectors to the fuel pump assembly.
3. Replace the access cover.
4. Go to step 5.
Step 5: Pressurize the Fuel System
1. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position.
2. Do not start the engine.
3. Listen for the fuel pump to run.
4. If you hear the fuel pump running, the fuel system is pressurized.
5. If you do not hear the fuel pump running, repeat steps 1 and 2.
Step 6: Start the Engine
1. Start the engine.
2. Let the engine run for a few minutes.
3. Check for leaks.
Tips:
- Be sure to disconnect the negative battery cable before starting work.
- When disconnecting the fuel lines, be careful not to spill any fuel.
- When installing the new fuel pump assembly, be sure to tighten the fuel lines and electrical connectors securely.
- After starting the engine, check for leaks.
