How do you replace the left front wheel bearing on a 1987 Mercury Topaz?

Parts Needed:

- New wheel bearing

- Grease seal (sometimes included with the bearing)

- Brake cleaner

- Thread locker

- Socket wrench set

- Torque wrench

- Jack and jack stands

- Flathead screwdriver

- Pry bar

Instructions:

1. Loosen the lug nuts. Use the socket wrench to loosen the lug nuts on the left front wheel. Do not remove the lug nuts completely.

2. Raise the vehicle. Place the jack under the vehicle's frame, near the left front wheel. Raise the vehicle until the tire is off the ground.

3. Remove the wheel. Use the socket wrench to remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.

4. Remove the brake caliper. Use the socket wrench to remove the bolts that hold the brake caliper in place. Remove the brake caliper and hang it from the suspension with a piece of wire.

5. Remove the rotor. Use the socket wrench to remove the bolts that hold the rotor in place. Remove the rotor.

6. Remove the hub assembly. Use the socket wrench to remove the bolts that hold the hub assembly in place. Remove the hub assembly.

7. Remove the wheel bearing. Use the flathead screwdriver and pry bar to pry the wheel bearing out of the hub assembly.

8. Clean the hub assembly. Use the brake cleaner to clean the hub assembly.

9. Install the new wheel bearing. Press the new wheel bearing into the hub assembly. Make sure that the bearing is seated properly.

10. Install the new grease seal. If the grease seal is not included with the new wheel bearing, install it now.

11. Install the hub assembly. Place the hub assembly back onto the vehicle. Install the bolts and tighten them to the correct torque specifications.

12. Install the rotor. Place the rotor back onto the vehicle. Install the bolts and tighten them to the correct torque specifications.

13. Install the brake caliper. Place the brake caliper back onto the vehicle. Install the bolts and tighten them to the correct torque specifications.

14. Install the wheel. Put the wheel back on the vehicle. Install the lug nuts and tighten them to the correct torque specifications.

15. Lower the vehicle. Lower the vehicle with the jack.

16. Test the brakes. Pump the brakes several times to make sure that they are working properly.

Tips:

* Be careful not to damage the brake rotor when removing it.

* Make sure that the new wheel bearing is seated properly in the hub assembly.

* Tighten all of the bolts to the correct torque specifications.

* Test the brakes before driving the vehicle.
