Materials Needed:
- Replacement Wiper Arm
- Wrench
- Screwdriver
- Pliers (Optional)
Step 1: Prepare Your Car:
- Turn off the engine and apply the parking brake.
- Lift the wiper blades away from the windshield using the lever in the car.
Step 2: Locate the Wiper Arm:
- Identify the wiper arm you want to replace. It's usually the one with the wiper blade attached.
Step 3: Remove the Wiper Blade:
- Use a screwdriver or pliers to gently lift and pry the wiper blade from its connection with the wiper arm. Be careful not to scratch the windshield.
Step 4: Remove the Wiper Arm Nut:
- Locate the nut that holds the wiper arm in place. It's usually a hex nut.
- Use the wrench to loosen and remove the nut.
Step 5: Remove the Wiper Arm:
- Once the nut is removed, gently lift the wiper arm straight up and off the splined shaft.
- Be careful not to drop the washer underneath.
Step 6: Install the New Wiper Arm:
- Position the new wiper arm on the splined shaft.
- Make sure the splines align properly and the arm fits snugly.
Step 7: Secure the Wiper Arm:
- Place the washer (if there was one) into place.
- Thread the nut onto the shaft and use the wrench to tighten it. Make it snug but not overly tight.
Step 8: Reattach the Wiper Blade:
- Gently align the wiper blade's connection point with the hook or pin on the wiper arm.
- Press the blade down until it clicks or snaps into place.
Step 9: Test the Wiper Arm:
- Turn on the windshield wipers.
- Make sure they move smoothly and that the blade makes full contact with the windshield.
Step 10: Clean Up:
- Dispose of the old wiper arm and any debris.
- Close the hood of the car.
Remember, if the new wiper arm doesn't fit properly, doesn't move smoothly, or makes a clicking noise, it's best to reinstall the original arm or consult with a professional mechanic.
