How do you change rear brake on 2005 Mercedes Benz cl500?

Tools

* Jack and jack stands

* Lug wrench

* 17mm socket wrench

* Brake caliper wrench

* Brake fluid

* Brake cleaner

* New brake pads

* C-clamp

Instructions

1. Park your car on a level surface and engage the parking brake.

2. Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels.

3. Jack up the rear of the car and place it on jack stands.

4. Remove the lug nuts and take off the rear wheels.

5. Use the caliper wrench to loosen the caliper bolts.

6. Remove the caliper and hang it from the suspension with a piece of wire or bungee cord.

7. Use the brake cleaner to clean the caliper piston and the brake rotor.

8. Inspect the brake pads for wear. If they are worn down to 1/4 inch or less, they will need to be replaced.

9. To replace the brake pads, use the C-clamp to compress the caliper piston.

10. Slide the new brake pads into the caliper.

11. Reattach the caliper to the brake rotor and tighten the caliper bolts.

12. Replace the lug nuts and lower the car.

13. Pump the brakes several times to seat the new brake pads.

14. Test the brakes by driving the car around slowly and applying the brakes.

Tips

* Make sure that you use the correct brake pads for your car.

* If you are not comfortable changing your brakes, you can have a professional mechanic do it for you.
