How do you replace thermostat housing in 1999 Jaguar XK8?

Tools Needed:

- Phillips head screwdriver

- Flat head screwdriver

- 5/16" socket wrench

- 3/8" socket wrench

- 7/16" socket wrench

- 1/2" socket wrench

- 10 mm socket wrench

- 12 mm socket wrench

- Anti-freeze

- Drain pan

- Rags

- New thermostat housing gasket

Instructions

1. Park the car on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down.

2. Open the hood and disconnect the negative battery terminal using the 10mm socket wrench.

3. Locate the thermostat housing on the front of the engine. It is a black plastic housing with two bolts holding it in place.

4. Place the drain pan under the thermostat housing and loosen the drain plug using the 12mm socket wrench. Allow the coolant to drain into the pan.

5. Remove the two bolts holding the thermostat housing in place using the 5/16" socket wrench.

6. Remove the old thermostat housing gasket and clean the mating surfaces of the thermostat housing and the engine block.

7. Apply a thin bead of anti-freeze sealant to the new thermostat housing gasket.

8. Install the new thermostat housing gasket and the two bolts. Tighten the bolts until snug.

9. Replace the drain plug and tighten it until snug.

10. Refill the cooling system with anti-freeze.

11. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.

12. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks.

13. Turn off the engine and check the coolant level. Add more anti-freeze if necessary.
