Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Disconnect the Battery:
- Begin by disconnecting the negative terminal of your vehicle's battery to prevent any electrical accidents during the repair process.
2. Remove Steering Wheel Trim:
- Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry off the two steering wheel trim pieces that surround the ignition switch cylinder.
3. Remove Ignition Cylinder Housing:
- Locate the Torx T30 screw on the side of the ignition switch cylinder housing. Remove this screw.
- Grasp the ignition switch cylinder housing and gently pull it toward you to release it from its mount.
4. Disconnect Ignition Wires:
- Once the housing is removed, you'll see several wires connected to the back of the ignition switch. Carefully disconnect these wires by pressing the release tabs and pulling them off the switch.
5. Remove the Ignition Switch:
- Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws that hold the ignition switch in place.
- Gently pull the ignition switch out from the steering column.
6. Install New Ignition Switch:
- Insert the new ignition switch into the steering column and align the screw holes.
- Secure the switch in place with the two Phillips screws you removed earlier.
7. Reconnect Ignition Wires:
- Reconnect the ignition wires by firmly pushing them back onto the switch. Ensure they snap securely into place.
8. Reattach Ignition Cylinder Housing:
- Slide the ignition cylinder housing back into position.
- Secure the housing with the Torx T30 screw you removed earlier.
9. Reattach Steering Wheel Trim:
- Snap the two steering wheel trim pieces back into place.
10. Reconnect Battery:
- Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery to restore power to the vehicle.
11. Test the Ignition Switch:
- Insert the ignition key and turn it to the "ON" position. Ensure that all electrical components, including the instrument panel and headlights, power on as expected.
12. Test Drive:
- Take the vehicle for a short test drive to ensure that the ignition switch is functioning correctly and the vehicle starts without any issues.
