How do you replace the front brake pads on a 1997 Lincoln town car?

Front Brake Pad Replacement

1. Tools Needed:

- Safety Glasses

- Jack and Jack Stands

- Lug Nut Wrench

- Flat Head Screwdriver

- C-Clamp

- Socket Wrench Set

2. Procedure:

- Park your vehicle on a level surface. Engage parking brake and chock the rear wheels to prevent it from rolling.

- Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels, but don't remove them completely.

- Raise the front of your vehicle with the jack until the front wheels are off the ground. Ensure your jack stands are stable and secure before lowering the car onto them.

- Remove the loosened lug nuts and take off the front wheels.

- Locate the brake caliper on the inside of the wheel hub. It's typically held in place by two bolts.

- Use the socket wrench to loosen and remove the caliper bolts.

- Gently lift the caliper off the rotor and suspend it using a piece of wire or string to avoid damaging the brake hose. Do not let it hang by the hose.

- Use a flathead screwdriver to press back the caliper piston into its housing. This will create more room to remove the old brake pads.

- Take out the old brake pads by gently pulling them out of the caliper.

- Inspect the brake rotor and other brake components for wear and tear. If necessary, replace them now.

- Place the new brake pads into the caliper. Make sure they are seated correctly.

- Reattach the caliper by placing it over the rotor and securing it with the caliper bolts you removed earlier. Tighten the bolts securely.

- Put the wheel back on and tighten the lug nuts by hand.

- Lower your car carefully and remove the jack and jack stands.

- Tighten the lug nuts fully with the lug nut wrench.

- Test the brakes before driving by pressing the brake pedal a few times.

Note: For most projects involving the brake system, it is recommended to have the work performed by a certified technician or mechanic. If uncertain, consult a professional for assistance.
