How do you remove head on 1987 Kawasaki 300?

To remove the head on a 1987 Kawasaki 300, follow these steps:

1. Remove Fuel Tank

-Locate the fuel tank at the front of the motorcycle frame

-Remove the fuel line hose clamp and disconnect it

-Remove the seat from the motorcycle

-Remove the two nuts holding the fuel tank

-Lift the fuel tank from the frame

2. Disconnect Spark Plugs

-Locate the four spark plugs on the cylinder head

-Carefully remove the spark plug caps

3. Disconnect Radiator Hoses

-Locate the radiator hoses connected to the cylinder head

-Use pliers or a wrench to carefully remove the radiator hoses

4. Disconnect other Hoses

-Locate coolant, oil, and other hoses connected to the cylinder head

-Remove these hoses and set them aside

5. Remove rocker arm cover

- Remove the 4 bolts that hold the rocker arm cover

-Remove the gasket between the rocker arm cover and the cylinder head

6. Rotate Crank Shaft

- Turn the crankshaft until the piston are in top dead center

7. Remove Camshaft Chain

- Remove the camshaft chain tensioner arm

- Remove the camshaft chain

- Remove the crankshaft sprocket

8. Remove Cylinder Head Bolts

- Remove 12 cylinder head bolts in sequence as shown below

9. Remove Head Gasket

- Once the cylinder heads are removed, scrape the old head gasket from the cylinder head and engine block.

- Be sure to remove all traces of the old gasket to ensure a proper seal when reinstalling the head gasket

10. Lift Cylinder Head

- Lift the cylinder off the cylinder base (engine block)

Reinstall the cylinder head in the reverse order.

NOTE: Be sure to use a new head gasket when reinstalling the cylinder head. Always torque the cylinder head bolts to the specifications provided in the motorcycle's service manual.
