Craftsman riding mower that shuts off when you put the blades up?

There are a few reasons why your Craftsman riding mower might shut off when you put the blades up.

1. Low oil level

The most common reason is that the oil level is too low. When the oil level is low, the engine will not get enough lubrication and will overheat, causing it to shut off. Check the oil level and add oil if necessary.

2. Faulty oil sensor

If the oil level is full, the next thing to check is the oil sensor. The oil sensor is responsible for detecting the oil level and sending a signal to the engine control unit (ECU). If the oil sensor is faulty, it may send a false signal to the ECU, causing the engine to shut off. Test the oil sensor and replace it if necessary.

3. Loose or damaged wiring

Loose or damaged wiring can also cause the engine to shut off. Check the wiring harness for any loose or damaged connections, and repair or replace any damaged wires.

4. Faulty PTO switch

The PTO switch is responsible for engaging and disengaging the blades. If the PTO switch is faulty, it may not send a signal to the engine control unit (ECU), causing the engine to shut off. Test the PTO switch and replace it if necessary.

5. Faulty engine control unit (ECU)

If all of the above checks out, the problem may be with the engine control unit (ECU). The ECU is responsible for controlling the engine's operation, and if it is faulty, it may cause the engine to shut off. Have the ECU tested by a qualified technician and replace it if necessary.
