1. Gather the necessary materials and tools.
- New transmission fluid of the correct type and amount as recommended in the motorcycle's owner manual
- Filter wrench
- Filter
- Funnel
- Drain pan
2. Prepare the bike.
- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to warm up the transmission.
- Turn off the engine and let it cool down completely.
- Put on safety glasses and gloves to protect yourself.
- Place a drain pan under the transmission housing to collect the old fluid.
- Clean the area around the drain plug to prevent dirt from entering the transmission housing.
3. Remove the drain plug.
Use the filter wrench to loosen and remove the transmission drain plug. Allow the old fluid to drain completely into the drain pan.
4. Replace the drain plug.
Once all of the old fluid has drained out, reinstall the drain plug and tighten it securely.
5. Remove the filter.
Using a filter wrench remove the transmission filter.
6. Install a new filter.
Ensure the new filter has a new gasket and thread the filter onto the transmission housing until snug.
7. Add new fluid.
Use a funnel to add new fluid to the transmission through the fill hole, as indicated in the owner's manual.
8. Check fluid level.
Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the new fluid. Stop the engine and check the fluid level. If necessary, add more fluid until the level is correct.
9. Clean and re-install the fill cap.
Ensure that the fill cap is properly tightened to prevent leaks.
10. Test ride.
Take the motorcycle for a short test ride and pay attention to any unusual noises or leaks.
