- 3/8-inch drive ratchet
- 8mm socket
- 10mm socket
- Torx T-25 wrench
1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Remove the starter switch.
3. Remove the air cleaner cover.
4. Remove the intake manifold.
5. Remove the starter mounting bolts.
6. Pull the starter out of the engine.
Here are the detailed instructions:
1. Disconnect the battery.
* Loosen the negative battery terminal bolt.
* Remove the negative battery cable from the terminal.
* Loosen the positive battery terminal bolt.
* Remove the positive battery cable from the terminal.
2. Remove the starter switch.
* Locate the starter switch on the right side of the motorcycle, behind the ignition switch.
* Remove the two screws that hold the starter switch in place.
* Disconnect the electrical connector from the starter switch.
3. Remove the air cleaner cover.
* Loosen the two screws that hold the air cleaner cover in place.
* Remove the air cleaner cover.
4. Remove the intake manifold.
* Loosen the four bolts that hold the intake manifold in place.
* Remove the intake manifold.
5. Remove the starter mounting bolts.
* There are two starter mounting bolts. One is located on the front of the starter and the other is located on the rear.
* Use a 10mm socket to loosen the starter mounting bolts.
* Remove the starter mounting bolts.
6. Pull the starter out of the engine.
* Once the starter mounting bolts are removed, you can pull the starter out of the engine.
* Be careful not to drop the starter.
Installation is the reverse of removal.
