Materials and Tools:
•10mm wrench
•17mm wrench
1. Park the motorcycle on a level surface and let it cool down if the engine has been running.
2. Locate the chain adjuster bolts on the rear wheel. There will be two of these bolts, located on either side of the wheel near the axle.
3. Use the 17mm wrench to loosen the axle nut on both sides of the rear wheel.
4. Next, use the 10mm wrench to loosen the chain adjuster locknuts. These are located near the chain adjuster bolts.
5. Once the locknuts are loose, use the 17mm wrench to turn the chain adjuster bolts clockwise to tighten the chain. Make sure to tighten both bolts evenly.
6. Check the chain tension by pressing up and down on the bottom of the chain. There should be approximately 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch of play. If there is too much or too little play, adjust the chain tension accordingly.
7. Once the chain tension is correct, tighten the chain adjuster locknuts securely.
8. Tighten the axle nut and reinstall the cotter pin.
10. Make sure the chain is lubed.
That is it! Your chain is now properly tensioned. Be sure to check your chain regularly, especially if you ride in wet or muddy conditions. A loose chain can damage your motorcycle and cause it to become unsafe to ride.
