- Oil filter housing removal tool (Volvo part number: 9995636, Hazet 2162, or equivalent)
- 3/8-inch drive ratchet
- 6-inch extension
- 17mm socket
- Oil drain pan
- New oil filter (Volvo part number: 30786152 or equivalent)
- New o-ring for oil filter housing (Volvo part number: 1236004 or equivalent)
Instructions:
1. Run the engine for a few minutes to warm up the oil. This will make it easier to remove the oil filter.
2. Turn off the engine and allow the oil to cool down slightly.
3. Place an oil drain pan under the oil filter housing.
4. Use the 17mm socket, ratchet, and extension to loosen the drain plug on the bottom of the oil filter housing. Allow the oil to drain completely into the drain pan.
5. Use the oil filter housing removal tool to loosen the oil filter housing. The tool has two pins that fit into the holes on the side of the housing. Turn the tool counterclockwise to loosen the housing.
6. Once the housing is loose, remove it by hand. Be careful not to spill any oil.
7. Remove the old o-ring from the oil filter housing.
8. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the new o-ring.
9. Place the new o-ring on the oil filter housing.
10. Reinstall the oil filter housing by hand. Tighten the housing until it is snug.
11. Use the oil filter housing removal tool to tighten the housing further. Turn the tool clockwise until it is tight.
12. Reinstall the oil filter using a new oil filter wrench and tighten until it is snug. Replace the oil filler cap.
13. Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and dispose of the old oil and oil filter properly.
14. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the new oil. Check for any leaks.
