Materials Needed:
- Phillips-head screwdriver
- New rear light assembly
- Replacement bulbs, if necessary
Instructions:
1. Remove the old rear light assembly:
- Locate the two Phillips-head screws that secure the rear light assembly to the vehicle.
- Remove the screws using the screwdriver.
- Pull the rear light assembly gently out of the vehicle, taking care not to disconnect any electrical wires.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector:
- Once the rear light assembly is removed, there will be an electrical connector attached to it.
- Press the release tab on the connector and pull it straight out of its socket.
3. Replace the light bulbs (optional):
- If the rear light assembly has burnt-out bulbs, you can take this opportunity to replace them before installing the new assembly.
- To replace a bulb, simply twist the old bulb counterclockwise and remove it from its socket. Install the new bulb by turning it clockwise until it's secure.
4. Install the new rear light assembly:
- Carefully align the new rear light assembly with the mounting points on the vehicle.
- Insert and tighten the two Phillips-head screws that you removed in step 1.
5. Reconnect the electrical connector:
- Push the electrical connector back into the socket on the rear light assembly until it clicks into place.
That's it! You have successfully replaced the rear light assembly in your 1997 VW Golf. Double-check that all the lights in the new assembly are functioning correctly before you start driving.
