Use the emergency key: Most KIAs have an emergency key that can be used to open the door. This key is typically located in the trunk or glove box. Once you have found the key, insert it into the keyhole and turn it counterclockwise to unlock the door.
Use a wedge and pry tool: If you don't have the emergency key, you can use a wedge and pry tool to open the door. First, insert the wedge into the doorframe near the door handle. Then, use the pry tool to pry the door open. Be careful not to damage the door or paint when using this method.
Use a Slim Jim: This tool is typically made of metal and is inserted between the window and weather stripping. Once inserted, the tool is used to push a button or rod that unlocks the door.
Call a locksmith: If you're not comfortable using any of the methods above, you can call a locksmith to open the door for you.
Here are some additional tips for opening a locked car door:
- Try to find a way to reach your keys from the inside of the car. You may be able to do this by using a coat hanger, a stick, or a piece of wire.
- If you can't reach your keys, you can try to break a window. This should be done only as a last resort, as it can be dangerous and expensive to repair.
- If you're locked in your car in hot weather, it's important to stay calm and hydrated. Drink plenty of water and fan yourself to stay cool. If you start to feel sick or dizzy, call for help immediately.
