How do you change the wiper blade motor in a 2001 Jetta?

Disconnect the Negative Battery Cable

Disconnect the negative terminal cable from the battery.

Locate the Wiper Transmission Cover

On the hood, locate the plastic, black wiper transmission cover. It is in the center of the windshield.

Remove the Wiper Transmission Cover

Use a flathead screwdriver to pry up the cover by inserting the tip beneath its edges. Remove the cover.

Pull the Wiper Arms Out

Pull the wiper arms straight up and off the wiper transmission linkage until they're free.

Remove the Wiper Motor Assembly Bolts

There are three 13 mm bolts securing the wiper motor assembly. Remove them.

Disconnect Electrical Connector

Disconnect the electrical connector from the wiper motor by squeezing its connector tabs, pressing the release tab and pulling the connector off the motor stem.

Remove Wiper Motor Assembly

Once you have disconnected all of the wiper linkage, unscrew the 13 mm bolt on top of the motor, and remove the motor from the car.

Install New Wiper Motor

Once the bolts have been removed, align the new wiper motor assembly and then tighten down the bolts. Reconnect the electrical connector and wiper linkage you removed earlier. Place the wiper arms back onto the transmission and put the wiper transmission cover back on. Ensure that everything is secure, and then reconnect the negative battery cable.
