1. A large flathead screwdriver
2. A C-clamp
3. A piece of wood or metal
Turn the engine off and park the vehicle in a level area. Engage the parking brake to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
Jack up the rear of the vehicle and remove the rear wheel.
Remove the two bolts that hold the brake caliper in place and remove the caliper.
Use the large flathead screwdriver to pry the dust boot off of the caliper piston. Be careful not to damage the dust boot.
Use the C-clamp to compress the caliper piston back into its bore. Place the piece of wood or metal between the C-clamp and the piston to avoid damaging the piston.
Continue to compress the piston until it is completely seated in the bore.
Reinstall the dust boot and the brake caliper.
Reinstall the wheel and lower the vehicle.
The rear brake caliper pistons can be turned back in without using a special tool.
Here are the steps:
Remove the rear wheels.
Remove the caliper from the caliper bracket.
Press the piston back into the caliper using the flat head of a screwdriver.
Be sure to turn the piston while pressing it in to prevent damage to the caliper.
Reinstall the caliper and brake pads.
Reinstall the wheels.
