How do you replace the serpentine belt on a 1998 Jaguar XJ-8?

Tools

- 10mm socket wrench

- 15mm socket wrench

- Breaker bar

- Flat-head screwdriver

- Replacement serpentine belt

Instructions

1. Park the car on a level surface and turn off the engine.

2. Locate the serpentine belt. It is the long, thin belt that runs around the front of the engine.

3. Loosen the tensioner pulley bolt. This bolt is usually located on the top of the engine, near the front of the car. Use a 15mm socket wrench to loosen the bolt, but do not remove it completely.

4. Pry the tensioner pulley away from the belt. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the pulley away from the belt. Be careful not to damage the pulley or the belt.

5. Remove the serpentine belt. Once the tensioner pulley is moved away from the belt, you can remove the belt from the engine.

6. Install the new serpentine belt. Start by placing the belt around the crankshaft pulley. Then, route the belt around the other pulleys in the correct order.

7. Tighten the tensioner pulley bolt. Use a 15mm socket wrench to tighten the bolt. Do not overtighten the bolt.

8. Check the belt tension. Use a force gauge to measure the tension of the belt. The tension should be between 85 and 115 pounds.

9. Start the engine and check for leaks. If there are no leaks, the serpentine belt replacement is complete.
