* ### Flat-head screwdriver
* ### Phillips-head screwdriver
* ### Wire cutters
* ### Needle-nose pliers
* ### Replacement cigarette lighter element
* ### Electrical tape
1. ### Disconnect the battery. This is a safety precaution to prevent any electrical shocks. To disconnect the battery, locate the negative terminal (usually marked with a minus (-) symbol) and loosen the nut or bolt that holds the terminal in place. Disconnect the terminal and move it away from the battery.
2. ### Remove the center console. The center console is the plastic panel that houses the cigarette lighter. To remove it, start by removing the screws that hold it in place. There may be screws located under the ashtray, under the cup holders, and under the dashboard. Once all the screws are removed, you can gently pry the center console up and remove it.
3. ### Remove the cigarette lighter assembly. The cigarette lighter assembly is the metal housing that holds the cigarette lighter element. To remove it, use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the assembly out of the center console. Be careful not to damage the wiring.
4. ### Remove the cigarette lighter element. The cigarette lighter element is the part that actually heats up to light cigarettes. To remove it, use a Phillips-head screwdriver to loosen the screw that holds it in place. Once the screw is loose, you can pull the element out.
5. ### Replace the cigarette lighter element. Insert the new element into the cigarette lighter assembly and tighten the screw. Make sure that the element is properly seated in the assembly.
6. ### Reattach the cigarette lighter assembly. Reinsert the cigarette lighter assembly into the center console and secure it with screws.
7. ### Reconnect the battery. Reconnect the negative terminal to the battery and tighten the nut or bolt that holds it in place.
8. ### Test the cigarette lighter. Insert a cigarette into the lighter and press it down. The lighter should heat up and ignite the cigarette. If it doesn't, there may be a problem with the wiring.
9. ### Apply electrical tape. Use a piece of electrical tape, cover any exposed wires to prevent short circuits.
If the cigarette lighter still does not work after replacing the element, there may be a problem with the wiring or the fuse. You should consult a qualified auto electrician to diagnose and repair the problem.
