How do you reset the check engine light in a 1989 corvette?

The 1989 Corvette does not have a check engine light. Instead, it uses a series of diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that can be retrieved by jumping two terminals on the ALDL (assembly line diagnostic link) connector. These codes can then be used to diagnose the problem and reset the system.

To reset the diagnostic trouble codes in a 1989 Corvette, follow these steps:

1. Locate the ALDL connector. It is usually located under the driver's side dash, near the fuse box.

2. Jump the "A" and "B" terminals on the ALDL connector. You can use a paperclip or a jumper wire to do this.

3. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position, but do not start the engine.

4. The check engine light will begin to flash. Count the number of flashes, then pause. The DTCs will be displayed in a series of two-digit codes. For example, a code 12 would be displayed as one flash, a pause, then two flashes.

5. Write down the DTCs.

6. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position.

7. Remove the jumper wire from the ALDL connector.

8. Start the engine.

9. The check engine light should be off.

If the check engine light comes back on, it means that the problem has not been fixed. You will need to have the DTCs diagnosed and the problem repaired before the light will go off.
