How do you replace the water pump on a 2000 VW Jetta vr6?

2000 VW Jetta VR6 Water Pump Replacement Guide

Locate the water pump. It is located behind the timing chain cover, beneath the cylinder head.

Remove the timing chain cover. This can be done by following the instructions in the VW VR6 Timing Chain Cover Replacement Guide.

Once the timing chain cover is removed, you will see the water pump. It is held in place by three bolts.

Remove the three bolts that hold the water pump in place.

Remove the old water pump from the engine.

Clean the mating surface of the engine block where the water pump will be installed.

Install a new water pump gasket.

Install the new water pump.

Install the three bolts that hold the water pump in place.

Tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

Replace the timing chain cover.

Fill the cooling system with coolant.

Start the engine and check for leaks.
