- Replacement alternator belt
- Ratchet and socket set
- Breaker bar
- Wrench
Instructions:
1. Loosen the Adjusting Bolt:
- Locate the alternator adjusting bolt on the mounting bracket. It's usually located near the top of the alternator.
- Use the ratchet and socket set to loosen the adjusting bolt by turning it counterclockwise.
2. Release the Tension:
- Once the adjusting bolt is loose, use the breaker bar to pry the alternator away from the engine block.
- This will release the tension on the alternator belt.
3. Remove the Old Belt:
- With the tension released, you can now remove the old alternator belt by slipping it off the pulleys.
4. Install the New Belt:
- Place the new alternator belt around the pulleys, starting with the crankshaft pulley and then looping it around the alternator pulley and the idler pulley (if equipped).
- Make sure the belt is seated correctly in the grooves of the pulleys.
5. Re-tension the Belt:
- Use the breaker bar to pry the alternator back towards the engine block, increasing the tension on the belt.
6. - While holding the alternator in position, use the ratchet and socket set to tighten the adjusting bolt.
7. Double Check:
- Recheck the belt tension by pressing down on it with your finger. It should give slightly but not too much.
- If necessary, adjust the belt tension again.
8. Test the Belt:
- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
- Listen for any unusual noises or vibrations coming from the belt area.
- If everything sounds and looks good, you've successfully installed the alternator belt on your Land Rover 2000 Discovery Series II.
