How do you remove rear ar shock absorber Merceded ML?

Tools and Materials:

- Jack and jack stands

- Socket set

- Ratchet

- Extension bar

- 18 mm socket

- Pliers

- Flat-head screwdriver

- Rust penetrant

Instructions:

1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.

2. Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels, then raise the rear of the vehicle using a jack and place it on jack stands.

3. Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheels.

4. Locate the two lower shock absorber mounting bolts.

They are located on the back side of the wheel hub assembly, near the bottom.

5. Spray some rust penetrant on the bolts and let it sit for a few minutes.

6. Use the 18 mm socket and ratchet with an extension bar to loosen and remove the two lower shock absorber mounting bolts.

7. Locate the upper shock absorber mounting nut under the rear cargo floor.

It is located near the center of the vehicle, just behind the rear seats.

8. Remove the carpeting or cover in the cargo area to access the nut.

9. Use the 18 mm socket and ratchet to loosen and remove the upper shock absorber mounting nut.

10. Locate the sway bar mounting bolt that connects the lower end of the shock absorber to the sway bar.

11. Use the appropriate size socket and wrench to loosen and remove the sway bar mounting bolt.

12. Remove the old shock absorber from the vehicle.

To do this, you may have to pry it loose or use a pry bar if it is stuck.

13. Install the new shock absorber.

To do this, simply reverse the removal procedure.

Make sure to tighten all of the bolts and nuts securely.

14. Lower the vehicle off the jack stands and put the wheels back on.

Tips:

* If the shock absorber is seized, you may need to use a penetrating oil or heat to loosen it.

* Be careful not to drop the shock absorber on yourself.

* It is recommended to replace the shock absorbers in pairs for best performance.
