1. Locate the OBD II port. It is usually found under the dashboard, near the steering wheel.
2. Connect an OBD II scanner to the port.
3. Turn on the ignition, but do not start the engine.
4. On the scanner, select the option to read trouble codes.
5. Once the codes have been read, select the option to clear them.
6. Wait for the scanner to confirm that the codes have been cleared.
7. Turn off the ignition and disconnect the scanner.
8. Start the engine and verify that the check engine light is off.
