1. Gather your materials. You will need:
* A new tailpipe washer
* A wrench
* A screwdriver
* A pair of pliers
2. Prepare the tailpipe. Allow the car to cool down if the engine has been running. Disconnect the battery to avoid accidental electric shock. Jack up the car and use jack stands to support it securely.
3. Locate the tailpipe washer. The tailpipe washer is located at the end of the tailpipe, where it connects to the muffler.
4. Remove the old tailpipe washer. Use the screwdriver to pry the old washer off of the tailpipe. Be careful not to drop the old washer into the exhaust pipe.
5. Install the new tailpipe washer. Place the new washer on the end of the tailpipe. Make sure that the washer is seated properly and that it is facing the correct direction.
6. Tighten the tailpipe clamp. Use the wrench to tighten the tailpipe clamp. Make sure that the clamp is tight enough to hold the washer in place, but not so tight that it crushes the washer.
7. Reconnect the battery. Reconnect the battery and remove the jack stands. Start the car and check for leaks. If there are no leaks, the repair is complete.
