How do you bleed the Brakes of a 2004 Chrysler van?

Tools and Materials:

Wrench Set

Tubing

Clear Container

Phillips head Screwdriver

Brake Fluid (DOT3 or DOT4)

Instructions:

1. Park your vehicle on a flat surface and turn off the engine.

2. Open the hood of your van.

3. Locate the master cylinder. It is usually a black or silver cylindrical container with a red cap, typically located on the driver's side of the engine bay.

4. Remove the cap from the master cylinder.

5. Check the brake fluid level. The fluid should be between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks on the reservoir. If it is low, add brake fluid until it reaches the proper level.

6. Locate the bleeder screws on the brake calipers. There will be one bleeder screw on each wheel. They are typically located on the back of the caliper.

7. Clean the bleeder screws. Remove any dirt or debris with a wire brush.

8. Attach one end of the tubing to the bleeder screw. Tighten it securely.

9. Place the other end of the tubing into the clear container.

10. Have a helper pump the brake pedal several times. They should press down on the pedal and hold it down while you are cracking open the bleeder screw, then release the brake pedal when you tighten the screw.

11. Watch the clear container. As your helper pumps the pedal, you will see brake fluid flowing out of the bleeder screw.

12. Continue bleeding the brake calipers until you see no more air bubbles coming out of the tubing.

13. Tighten the bleeder screws securely.

14. Repeat steps 7-14 on each of the remaining brake calipers.

15. Once you have bled all the brakes, check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder again. Add brake fluid if necessary to bring it up to the proper level.

16. Replace the cap on the master cylinder and close the hood of your vehicle.

17. Test the brakes by pumping the brake pedal several times. The pedal should feel firm and not squishy. If the pedal feels squishy, there may still be air in the brake lines. Repeat the bleeding process until the pedal feels firm.
