How do you adjust the hand brake on 1999 Chevy cavalier?

To adjust the handbrake on a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier, follow these steps:

Obtain the necessary tools, including a ratchet, a 13mm socket, a flathead screwdriver, and a small hammer.

Locate the handbrake lever inside the car. It is typically positioned between the front seats.

Pull up on the handbrake lever to engage it.

Locate the adjustment nut underneath the handbrake lever. It is usually a 13mm nut.

Use the ratchet and the 13mm socket to turn the adjustment nut clockwise until the handbrake lever feels snug and can hold the car in place on a slight incline.

Use the flathead screwdriver to pry off the plastic cap from the rear brake drum cover.

Ensure the parking brake is off before proceeding further.

Locate the star wheel adjuster behind the brake drum cover. It is usually at the bottom of the backing plate.

Use the flathead screwdriver to turn the star wheel adjuster clockwise until it is snug.

Replace the brake drum cover and the plastic cap.

Check if the handbrake lever is adjusted properly. It should be able to hold the car in place on a steep incline.

If the handbrake lever is still too loose, repeat steps 5-7.

Test drive the car and ensure the handbrake is working correctly.
